Unshaped refractory is also called monolithic refractory or amorphous refractory, it is new type refractory which don’t need to be pre-sintered. Unshaped refractories are often supplied in the form of bulk refractory mixtures, after molding and roasting, they can be directly put into application. Monolithic refractories feature in simple production craft, energy-saving, excellent performance, multiple shapes and long life, etc. Besides, the applications of unshaped refractory gradually extend to high temperature smelting furnaces from low-medium temperature atmosphere furnaces, therefore, the proportion of amorphous refractory is continuously growing.
For metallurgy industry, from iron ore sintering, coking, iron making, steel making, secondary refining to continuous casting and steel rolling, unshaped refractory materials are used in all metallurgical furnaces and thermal equipment. For example, refractory gunning mixes are used at large capacity blast furnace inner lining, ramming mixture is used at furnace bottom, while gunning mixture and injection mixes are used for patching. Besides, blast furnace brasque are all made from unshaped refractory. Large capacity hot blast furnace dome and furnace shell inner lining are coated with gunning mixes, hot blast furnace hot air valve inner lining are castable by refractory concrete, hot blast furnace and blast furnace hot air pipes inner linings are constructed by castable refractory. Iron ore sintering furnace, holding furnace and large size chimney inner lining are all built by plastic mixes, refractory castable and refractory gunning mixes.
Secondly, the application of refractory gunning mixes in steelmaking takes a large proportion. The application of monolithic refractory in steel ladle working lining is significantly increasing. As to continuous casting, both tundish lining and slag stopper are built by unshaped refractory. When refers to secondary refining, impregnation tube, monolithic spray gun, vacuum degassing equipment inner lining are all or partially built by unshaped refractory. Monolithic refractory are most widely used in steel rolling soaking pit and heating furnace, for example, plastic refractory and castable used in heating furnace water cooling tube have excellent energy-saving effect. Refractory mortar is top choice for coking application, besides, it is also used at dry coking furnace working lining, coke furnace door, flue and so on.
Thirdly, in the application of nonferrous metallurgy, unshaped refractory are mainly used at electrolysis cell, imperial smelting furnace, aluminum reverberator, copper smelting line frequency furnace, copper smelting flash furnace, anode furnace, electrode furnace, converter, etc.
Fourthly, unshaped refractories are also widely used in other industries, such as machinery industry(various kinds of induction furnaces, slat bath furnaces, heat treatment furnace working lining), dynamics chemistry industry(gas generator, shale retort, atmospheric furnace, vacuum furnace, ammonia synthesis equipment first stage and second stage converter and exhaust funnel). Besides, monolithic refractories are also used in industrial boilers, power plant boiler working linings, etc. In building materials industry, the applications are rotary cement kiln inner linings and glass furnaces.
