Differences Between Refractory Castables and Refractory Plastic

Differences Between Refractory Castables and Refractory Plastic

Both castables and refractory plastics are amorphous materials among refractory materials, and can also be said to be bulk materials.

Refractory plastics are irregular shaped refractory materials consisting of powdery materials, plastic clays, binders, and plasticizers, added with a small amount of water, and in the form of mud and maintaining high plasticity for a long time. It is mainly used for the top of various heating furnaces and boilers that are not in direct contact with the melt.

Refractory castable is composed of a certain proportion of refractory particles and powder, plus a binder, which has high fluidity, and is suitable for construction by the pouring method.

Refractory castables are classified into three types: hydraulic, gas and fire.

①Hydraulic refractory castables are cementitious castables that require water to participate in the chemical reaction during the hardening process. They are hydraulic refractory castables. Cement is the main factor that determines the strength of the castable. If the temperature is high and the construction site is highly corrosive, a high-density material is used to increase the wear resistance of the refractory castable.

②The gas-hard refractory castable is water-glass binder. Water-glass combined refractory castables have acid resistance and abrasion resistance, so they are often used as linings for chemical equipment. Water-glass-containing castables harden very slowly and require some coagulant during construction. Water glass bonded castables are acidic materials and are generally used in furnaces resistant to acidic attack.

③The refractory refractory castable is a castable with phosphoric acid as the binder. It needs to be baked to obtain the strength and high temperature performance, so it is called refractory refractory castable.

Regardless of whether it is refractory castable or refractory plastic, it is an amorphous refractory material in the same category, but the difference in use is the difference in the bonding agent and the performance of the material itself. Plastic requires strong plasticity.
